We celebrated National Peanut Butter Day on January 25 but this week we are observing National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day which occurred on March 1. I thought it’s only appropriate to discuss this spread everyone enjoys, that is, unless you’re allergic to it.

Peanut Butter is very versatile and is used not just to make the famous peanut butter and jelly sandwich but it also tastes great with honey (my personal favorite), chocolate and on apples. Peanut Butter is included in lots of recipes, from main dishes to desserts and is the base for many sauces! How about peanut butter ice cream or peanut butter on marshmallows or in the grooves of celery? In 1903 George Washington Carver came up with over 300 uses for peanut butter.

Phenomenal Fudge uses Jiff creamy peanut butter in making peanut butter fudge and peanut butter chocolate fudge.

The popularity of peanut butter began in 1890, when a doctor started prescribing peanut butter to his patients who had difficulty chewing. Five years later the Kellogg company steamed peanuts to make the spread. Today they are mostly roasted but in southern states fresh, boiled peanuts are available at many ball parks.
Peanut Butter trivia: 540 peanuts make a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter, the famous Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup was first introduced to the USA in 1928, you can actually join the Adult Peanut Butter Lovers Fan Club and the world’s largest peanut butter factory which is owned by Jiff and produces over 250,000 jars daily.
