While peanuts and chocolate have been around for many hundreds of years The combination of peanut butter and chocolate actually began in 1928 with the invention of Reese's peanut butter cups. H.B. Reese used to work at Hershey's in Pennsylvania and put the two foods together to form a "Penny Cup".  Hershey's subsequently purchased Reese's company for 23.5 million dollars and the one-time Penny Cup became Hershey's most popular product.
