Irish Cream, as the name emplies, was indeed invented in Ireland and is a fairly recent discovery. In the 1970s David Dand figured out a way to combine cream and whiskey both of which were common in agricultural Ireland. A few years later powdered chocolate and sugar were added to the mix. And Bailey's Irish Cream was invented.
It is so symbolic of Ireland that the name is internationally protected so that Irish Cream can only be attributed to Irish Cream made in Ireland.
