Nat'l Chocolate Covered Nut Day

Here’s a bit of fun history information for those who love the popular chocolate covered snack, also known as M&M’s: Invented in 1954, the delicious melt-in-your-mouth candy didn’t have colors until six years later, in 1960, when the colors of red, green and yellow became available. Until that time, however, before production escalated into making more colors such as blue, brown and orange, the only color available was tan, if deemed a color at all but most referred to the color as “plain.”

Take a giant step-back in time, 1925 precisely, and one will find the first chocolate-covered peanut candy known to many as a “Goober.” Slang for “peanut,” a Goober enticed many chocolate lovers to savor their sweet tooth, or as would be the case in my house of kidos, teeth!

Contrary to some beliefs about chocolate being bad for one’s health, proving to be an antioxidant for one’s health, there is a substantial amount of “good,” or healthy fats included in the luscious substance known as dark chocolate. Composed of unsaturated fats, like monounsaturated fats, the nuts from trees are healthy and may prevent blood clots. Being an excellent source of vitamins E and B2, nuts are also high in protein, folate, fiber and essential minerals, such as magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and selenium.

So, come one or come all, and help spread the word about the wonders of dark chocolate as we celebrate National Chocolate Covered Nut Day today Wednesday, February 25th. Order yours today from Phenomenal Fudge. You’ll be glad you did!
