Here’s a little history for those candy buffs out there. Those who enjoy the sweet taste of the pink, fluffy, sugary stuff one normally sees at fairs and festivals are in for a treat. November 4th is National Candy Day and celebrates the candy that people all over the world enjoy.

Take a step back in time, before sugar was easily available, and one will find that honey was used instead. To keep fruits and even flowers in their original state, honey covered the item. Also, honey was used as a healing aid, used to soothe sore throats and help in digestion. Interesting to note though, during this time, those who did have sugar on-hand were usually only the wealthy as it was considered a luxury.

It wasn’t until the 18th century that the first candy was shipped from Britain and France to America. Being made from crystallized sugar, Rock Candy was the easiest, simplest form of candy to be made. Beginning in 1979, with new creations and advances in technology, world-wide production of sugar has increased to the point where supply is greater than demand. This phenomenon makes the value of sugar extremely cheap to purchase and available to not just the wealthy, but everyone. Even kids are now able to purchase the popular penny-candy at the neighborhood store.

Today, the two top-selling brands of candy are M&M’s and Peanut Butter Cups. Now fill your trick-or-treat bags with those which America love. In celebration of National Candy Day for the next week ending on November 4, Phenomenal Fudge will include a free small bag of Halloween Candy with every order. Happy Halloween!
