But what exactly is caramel? Wikipedia states that caramel “is a medium to dark-orange confectionery product made by heating a variety of sugars. It can be used as a flavoring in puddings and desserts, as a filling in bonbons, or as a topping for ice cream and custard.”

Much debate has occurred over the correct spelling of caramel. When discussing food or flavors choose “caramel” using three syllables. When discussing people or places choose “carmel” with two syllables. Just to be sure, look at your ingredient label of this month’s Fudge-of-the-Month: Chocolate Caramel Cookie. No matter how you spell it, pronounce or spoon it out of the tub, it certainly is delicious!
